Back-on-Track Disaster Recovery Program - North Carolina Railroad Company

Back-on-Track Disaster Recovery Program

In response to Hurricane Helene’s destruction and devastation in Western North Carolina, the North Carolina Railroad Company (NCRR) launched the Back-on-Track Disaster Recovery program, a disaster and recovery relief program for North Carolina communities. NCRR will provide $10 million to the new impact fund and plans to distribute award amounts based on a needs assessment.

Overview

NC Short Lines (Class II and Class III) needing track infrastructure repair and/or operations stabilization funding.

Rail-served industries affected by Hurricane Helene, seeking funding for track infrastructure repairs.

Non-profit economic development organizations (EDOs) in need of support for operations stabilization.

Operate within one or more of the 25 North Carolina counties designated as disaster areas by FEMA.

Ensure that all proposed capital projects and operational activities are located within these designated areas.

Qualified activities that took place after Hurricane Helene and before the grant award date are eligible for funding.

All grant applications must be submitted by November 15th.
